By introducing Article 8 of its Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) the European Commission has made regular energy audits an obligation for large companies in the EU. Energy audits have to be carried through every 4 years by a qualified auditor. A large enterprise is a company which has internationally:
a) more than 250 employees;
b) a turnover of more than 50 million euros and at the same a balance sheet of over 43 million euros.
